少女琳（陈慧琳）患有血癌，就在她迷失于生与死的边缘时，结识了成熟稳重的苏格兰船员阿德（王敏德），听过阿德所讲的关于他故乡天涯海角的故事后，琳感觉到一份莫名的缘分，然而突然间阿德消失，失落之际，琳碰到专门替人寻找失物的阿虫（金城武），聘请下他寻找阿德，经过阿虫的辛苦努力，琳与阿德终又见面，原来阿德准备回故乡定居。 阿德走后，琳和阿虫一起做事时获得一种从没有过的充实和快乐，然而她的心里始终惦念着天涯海角，并决定在生命结束之前，一定要去那里一趟。
