◎简 介
方生方死，方死方生。人届中年的指挥家汤姆，在两端之间进退维谷。即将举行的演奏会诸事不顺，忙得不可开交之际，老父失智症恶化，老母癌病缠身，恐不久于人世。前度女友临盆，他亲自迎接新生命到临，更充当代理父亲。妹妹爱上同样酗酒的有妇之夫，生活一塌胡涂，更把他的音乐会弄垮。长期抑郁的作曲家决意寻死，他不得不为好友善后。一次又一次与死亡邂逅，指挥家终达致《垂死》交响曲的圆成，导演格斯纳也为亡故家人献上一阕动人挽歌。柏林影展最佳编剧。
