　　玛莎（艾伦·德杰尼勒斯 Ellen DeGeneres 饰）每日沉浸在工作之中，根本没有时间谈情说爱，因此，年近三十的她依旧过着单身生活。某日，一位名叫威曼（比尔·普尔曼 Bill Pullman 饰）的男子出现在了玛莎的身边，威曼英俊、多金、迷人又慷慨，更重要的是，他似乎对玛莎情有独钟，遇见这样一位几乎完美的白马王子，玛莎立刻被迷昏了头脑。

　　玛莎决定同威曼结婚，然而此时，她却发现，威曼并不是她所想象的那样完美。威曼的女友尹佳（琼·库萨克 Joan Cusack 饰）疯狂而又善妒，而他的母亲（琼·普莱怀特 Joan Plowright 饰）是一个离不开自己儿子的女人，更糟糕的是，威曼对玛莎的爱意似乎已经浓烈的超越了正常范围。
