　　辛蒂雷格（莎朗史东饰）因情杀案而被被捕入狱，并即将于三十天后执行死刑。新任特赦组员瑞格海斯深入调查案情之后，觉得事有蹊跷而积极为辛蒂争取特赦，但是，因为当时被杀的是州长好友的儿子，因此在重新调查的过程中遭遇许多阻碍，甚至被撤换去调查其它的案件。因被瑞格海瑞的人道精神所感动，辛蒂由最初的消极、不合作的态度，转变成积极的配合，而一宗血腥的谋杀案的真相才开始昭然若揭。
